PETRUSHKA
Free adaptation of the well-known ballet, music Igor Stravinsky, string
marionnettes.
The performance was selected at the World Puppet Festival of Charleville Mézières in 2000.
It’s wintertime in St Petersburg. A masked man clothed in a dark cloak approaches the crowd. He announces the passers-by that that night he will have a marionnette show. He then goes to town to let other people know about the event. Nobody is allowed to touch his little castle while he is gone. But Petrushka and his best friend Pantin can hardly wait for him to be gone. They themselves are eager to perform in front of the gathered people. Petrushka would also like to invite the little ballerina who has just arrived there to join them in their deed. Yet the sword lancer is totally against Petrushka’s crazy idea, and he tries his best to prevent the latter from fulfilling his plan. Is our hero, a musician and an acrobat at the same time, going to do what he has planned to do before the great Marionnettiste returns?
