     Aşa cum există un repertoriu canonic de romane, de tragedii, de comedii, de poeme ori eseuri, la fel există şi un top al poveştilor lumii. Din el nu lipseşte, în nici un caz, Hänsel şi Gretel, care m-a făcut să nu pot dormi câtva timp, în după-amiezele şi nopţile copilăriei, din motive pe care, parcă, astăzi le înţeleg mai bine. În acest basm cules de Fraţii Grimm prin casele ţăranilor germani şi inclus în primul volum al colecţiei lor intitulate Basme pentru copii şi cămin (1812) se regăsesc mari teme ale lumii prezente în Biblie şi în marile epopei ori tragedii antice. A aduce aşa ceva în faţa celui mai fragil şi mai tânăr public înseamnă să îi dai şansa de a se forma conectat la câteva dintre marile teme ale culturii umanităţii şi, în orice caz, la izvoarele celei europene. Locul lui Hänsel şi Gretel este pe scenă, printre copii. Copiii de toate vârstele.

     As there are repertories of novels, comedies, poems or essays, there is a “top” of the world’s most famous stories. In it there is Hänsel and Gretel, the story that made me stay awake for several nights in my childhood, for reasons I can better understand today. In this tale one can find the great themes of the world, present also in the Bible and in the great epopees or antique tragedies. To bring them in the attention of the most fragile and young public means to give them the chance to develop connected to some of the greatest themes of the humanity and to the beginnings of the European culture. The place of Hänsel and Gretel is on the stage, between children.
