4X4
A performance by Alexandra Badea
4X4 is a multidisciplinary device. It is an installation performance that supplies the frame on which the public is expected to build its own story. The “device” is made up of four walls within the Turkish Bath of Iasi, and the public is seated within this device. Thus, it is closer to the characters; it may “supervise” them and be “supervised” by them in turn, if necessary.
4X4 is a dramatic text that I meant to be acted in Iasi, according to the town’s realities. The performance has eight characters that are representative to the Romanian society, and who develop very tense relationships among themselves.
4X4 is meant to be an analysis of the way society (the dominant group) oppresses the individual. I am not in the least pleased with our living in a world in which individuality seems hard to assume, and we still do only what the others do, and there is plenty of talk on extremism, discrimination and intolerance.
4X4 is aimed at gathering together some very young artists of Iasi (actors, painters, sound-designers) that wish to express their opinion on the contemporary world, that feel they have something to say on the present situation, and that by expressing their attitude toward it, intend to bring some changes to it.
